Hello, I'm Alex.A

Alex Shearcroft

About me

I'm Alex, a Front-End Web Developer from Essex.

Upon leaving University I started working in the web industry at a local media marketing agency (Storm Creative) – where I still work to date. I started as a junior and began learning on the job how to specialise in Front-End Web Development. I slowly enhanced my skills and began working proficiently with HTML, Javascript and SCSS. No project was ever the same so I learnt new and enhanced skills by programming responsive websites, HTML emails, signatures and Facebook Apps.

UX Development

Research and conception – mapping out core requirements for the site’s structure and layout to create the best user experiences for use as Low-Fi prototypes.

Responsive Design

Converting initial concepts into Hi-Fi prototypes using simple, clean and effective component led designs with thoughtful interactions for both mobile and desktop devices.

Web Development

Utilising my skills to programme designs into fully functional websites and web applications – optimised for performance, search engines whilst providing the best experience for users.

Skills & tools

I’ve been a Web Developer for the past 8 years now, in this time I’ve worked on a range of different projects all developed using a variety of languages, frameworks, templates and libraries. As a Front-End Developer my core skillset is working with languages such as HTML, CSS/PCSS/SCSS and Javascript/ES6. However, by working on a range of projects I've learned and improved my working knowledge of PHP and template engines such as Twig (Craft CMS) and Blade (Laravel).

Other key frameworks and libraries I regularly use include: React, NextJS, VueJS, NuxtJS, jQuery, Tailwind CSS, PurgeCSS, Laravel Mix, Laravel and Craft CMS.

I have a good working knowledge of using git and all my personal projects are version controlled using GitHub. Outside of coding I also have experience with design tools and software packages such as Sketch, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator, UXPin and Google Web Designer. My preference is to use Sketch for all wireframing and designing of sites.
